The Camp Experience
Each summer, Steve’s Camp at Horizon Farms offers four 12-day sessions that vary by grade level, gender, and subject matter, along with various programs during the school year through NYC and Westchester public schools. Many of our summer campers return year after year, eventually becoming counselors and mentoring the next generation of campers. Collectively, the Steve’s Camp team works to ensure campers leave with more than new friendships and memories: they take with them valuable tools and strategies they can rely on in any environment, in any stage of life.
Nestled in Livingston Manor in the Catskills region of New York, Steve's Camp at Horizon Farms can accommodate 50 campers and counselors and boasts:
“It was the first time I was really able to get out in nature.”
“The stars are beautiful at night. You don’t get that in the city at all.”
Our “camp classics” are core activities offered to campers in all sessions.
Connect with nature.
Campers explore Horizon Farms’s 100-acre property through biking, hiking, and horseback riding. They also participate in nature workshops, where they learn about the practical uses of native plants and herbs.
By participating in cooperative games and sports, our Top Chef and eco-challenges, dialogue activities, and team-building at our high ropes challenge course, campers form lasting friendships and learn to work together.
Learn about our food systems.
Campers gain hands-on experience on a working farm, raising animals—including our chickens and goats—and growing organic produce. Working with our knowledgeable chefs, campers explore both new recipes and ones from their communities’ food traditions, often cooking with ingredients grown here at the Camp.
Campers build their coping and self-care toolbox by developing meditation, mindfulness, and yoga practices, and participating in relaxation-focused art activities and gratitude workshops.
Whether they’re taking on the high ropes course, trying the zipline, or honing their archery skills, Steve’s Camp offers a space for campers to take on new challenges in a supportive, safe environment.
Through Steve’s Camp’s many activities, campers can discover their green thumb, experience “a-ha” moments in the great outdoors, and become more aware of their own energy and strengths.
